Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to the Polaris FAQ. Here you’ll find answers to common questions about our programme, research opportunities, partnerships, and general information.

For Students & PhD Candidates

Polaris focuses on RF technology across multiple domains: radar, MRI, and telecommunication. Our research spans from materials and electronics to applications and system integration.

PhD positions are offered through our academic partners.

You will work in a collaborative, cross-organizational setting. In addition to your academic research, you’ll engage with industry partners and contribute to joint goals in research and valorisation.

A strong foundation in electrical engineering, physics, or a related field is essential. Experience in RF or related technologies is a plus, but not always required.

Yes, several partners offer opportunities for internships or thesis projects. Contact them directly and explore their vacancies.

For Potential Partners

We welcome new collaborations! If your organization is active in RF-related technologies or applications, stay tuned—we will launch an open call for new partners later this year. If you need information sooner, feel free to reach out via the contact form on our website to explore partnership opportunities.

Access to cutting-edge research, collaboration with top experts and institutions, and the opportunity to shape the future of RF technology across industries.

Polaris is funded by the Dutch National Growth Fund. While funding is allocated to consortium activities, new collaborations can be explored through joint projects or aligned initiatives.

We are developping financial instruments. Infomation on this will become available when the Open Call is launched, also see Q1 of the FAQ.

These include joint research, valorisation projects, technology development, and ecosystem events. We also welcome startup involvement and innovation challenges.

Associate Partner (ASPA)

An Associate Partner is an organization connected to the POLARIS ecosystem that explores collaboration without joining the formal consortium.

To expand the ecosystem and involve relevant expertise beyond the current consortium, enabling faster innovation and broader collaboration.

Companies, knowledge institutes, educational organizations, and cluster organizations with relevant expertise and a Dutch R&D presence.

Participation as an Associate Partner is currently free of charge.

No direct access. However, Associate Partners can respond to opportunities such as white spots, where co-funded collaboration may be possible.

No. Associate Partner status does not grant access to intellectual property or confidential information.

Within POLARIS, white spots are identified gaps and opportunities in the RF research landscape.

They are not abstract ideas, but concrete topics defined by both researchers and industry partners, based on:

  • ongoing research
  • technological developments
  • real-world needs

White spots highlight where additional expertise or complementary capabilities are needed.

They form an important mechanism to connect associate partners directly to relevant challenges and innovation opportunities

POLARIS reviews your profile and connects you to relevant updates, events, and potential collaboration opportunities.

POLARIS consortium partners operate under formal agreements connected to the Dutch National Growth Fund program and its obligations towards the Dutch Government. For that reason, it is not likely that new organizations will become part of the existing consortium structure itself.

At the same time, one of the core objectives of POLARIS is to expand and strengthen the Dutch RF ecosystem. The Associate Partner (ASPA) model was created specifically for that purpose.

As an Associate Partner, organizations become part of the broader POLARIS ecosystem by connecting to the network, engaging with innovation opportunities, and contributing expertise to the development of future RF technologies.
